Where Do I Find Peace?

·

Isaiah 26:3-4: “You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal…”

The idea of peace can simply be explained as completeness, soundness, safety, inner security, total well-being. How can we experience peace when there is such turbulence surrounding us?   Much of what we see and hear in the media today triggers an intense response from our emotions, while deep inside we long for a sea of calm. But, where and when will this peace arise – if ever?

This world’s peace is based upon circumstances, which constantly change, so the world’s peace eventually will break down. The peace Jesus gives is genuine lasting peace (John 14:27). A doctor can give you medicine and even a cure for a disease but not peace; only Jesus can do that. The Bible says, “He is our peace” (Ephesians 2:14). So our peace must start with Jesus who is the only answer for the world today.

This peace is not manifested in the absence of pain and difficulties but confidence in God’s sovereignty whereby we can say as the hymn writer put it, “It is well with my soul,” resting in the wise counsel and purposes of God rather than in our own.

To paraphrase Isaiah, unbroken peace is for those whose mindset is firmly fixed because they have a radical faith commitment to their Rock-solid Lord who reigns eternally. So trust in him. Believe in him. Lean on him. And let the peace of Christ that passes all understanding rule in your heart.

C. H. Spurgeon wrote, “God is too good to be unkind and He is too wise to be mistaken. And when we cannot trace His hand, we must trust His heart.” So be at peace.
