Sending well is a ministry of presence. Being there. Showing up. Walking alongside others as they go through the seasons of life. It is being there in the shocking, confusing, frustrating, and painful moments of life. It is also being there in the ordinary, daily moments of life – understanding their ministry, building relationships, knowing their kids, praying for them, and cheering them on.  

At Alliance Church, the well-being of those we send out and support from our church is a high priority, and we are intentional in our encouragement and communications. One practical way we do this is through the Missionary Care Team. This small group of 15 – 20 people meet regularly to learn about topics such as ways to encourage those on the mission field, effective ways to communicate with our international workers, and the unique needs and challenges the missionaries’ children face. They also share updates, prayer requests, and praises, which are then published in our bi-monthly Global Connections Updates & Prayer Guide.
 
Each person on the Care Team is connected to one of our missionary families. Friendships are developed and deepened as they share life, praying for one another and bearing each other’s burdens. As we keep the international workers informed about what is happening at Alliance Church, connections are maintained. And as our church members pray for the missionary families, we keep them close in heart and mind. One missionary couple said that when they return to Alliance Church for a visit, they feel at home. They feel known, loved, and cared for by the many who have read their updates and have been praying for them.
 
Recently, two couples returning from the field were asked what things made them feel most cared for while on the field. Their answers might surprise you.

• A simple text saying, “No rush to respond. Just wanting you to know that I’m praying for you.”  
• Receiving a $5 Venmo for a cup of coffee
• A short email letting them know you read their ministry newsletter
• Pictures of your family
• A visit from someone back home
